Ashly Mejia and Emily Soto explain how their day in a life can look like as a student that focuses on their academics and doing sports at the same time.
Ashly Mejia said that during her day her practices start from 4:30 to 6:00. So after school the cheerleaders need to wait a while for the coach to get there, after that they change, stretch and do dances.
“Sometimes I find being a student athlete stressful because for example, this week we have four games. So my only day off is Thursday so it’s really stressful because I get home really late like around 9.” Mejia Said.
Ashly said that the way that she manages school and sports is by seeing how much work she has in each class. For example she mostly does all her work in class, so she doesn’t really have anything to do after practice.
When Ashly got asked if she would pursue this sport in the future she said, “Umm I don’t think so because I do cheer just to do it because I find it very fun but it’s not something I would do in the future.” Mejia said.
Emily Soto said that she starts her day early in the morning, then she tries to eat lunch at school, and then after she goes straight to practice.
“I have an hour to do after school so I can do homework, then I have practice for about two hours till 6, and then I go home. I shower, eat, hang out with my family, and then repeat.” Soto said.
Emily Soto thinks that being a student athlete can be stressful but it shouldn’t be as stressful if you have very good time management.
“I try to get my work done all at school so I don’t have to worry about getting my work done after school.” Soto Said.
Lastly she said that she would probably pursue cheerleading in college.
