The Rocktown Raptors boys varsity soccer team tied Harrisonburg High School 2-2 on Tuesday, April 14 at Harrisonburg High School Field. The tie led to the Raptors dropping to second-to-last place in the Valley district.
The energetic crowd enjoyed the close game that RHS and HHS put on. Joshua Ireheta scored first, after getting the ball through a triple team to shoot outside the box. Later in the first half, J.J Walters took a corner kick for the Raptors which HHS headed into their own goal making the score 2-0.Â
To start the second half, Harrisonburg High School came out with a renewed sense of urgency, quickly shifting the momentum of the game. Pushing higher up the field and maintaining possession, HHS began to break down the Raptors’ defense with sharper passing and coordinated runs.
HHS persistence paid off midway through the half when they found the back of the net, cutting the deficit to 2-1 and energizing both the players and the home crowd. The goal sparked even more intensity from HHS, who continued to apply pressure and create scoring opportunities.
