On Raptor cheer, every cheerleader has a personal purpose for cheering, yet each of them is ready for any new experience. Davina Nguyen likes doing cheer all year long such as varsity competition cheer, allstar cheer, sideline basketball varsity cheer, and sideline football cheer. Dayanis Garcia Vaillant does cheer mostly for sideline varsity basketball cheer but wants to do varsity competition cheer.
Freshman Davina Nguyen likes cheer because she likes the environment, it’s fun to do, and she really enjoys it. She also explains why she wanted to start cheerleading.
“Umm I do know, like I saw like it could get me somewhere in a higher level and stuff like that so I continued it,” Nguyen said.
During her cheer season Nguyen looks forward to stunting. Someone that is her biggest supporter while cheering is her sister. She also mentions she started cheer early.
“I started cheer in 6th grade, I feel like after high school yeah but I don’t know about after college but I do really enjoy it,” Nyguyen said.
Davina also does Allstar cheer out of school.
Freshman Dayanis Garcia Vaillant likes cheer because you can make new bonds with people you never met before, you could learn new things, and experience new stuff. She Dayanis mentions why she wanted to join the cheer team.
“Something that really made me want to start cheerleading is people, my friends inspired me, they encouraged me to cheer. It’s like they always told me about their experience about how cheer was for them so I wanted to take a chance and explore that chapter of my life. Now you know, cheering is just like it’s a wonderful thing to do if you want to meet new people like I said.”
Vaillant said.
During her cheer season, she looks forward to getting better at things that she messes up on and just improving day by day. She looks to her coaches to help her improve.
“Probably my coaches, they have great energy when we’re cheering even when we mess up. They just have that positive energy and that’s what the team is all about, positivity and get all the negative vibes out,” Vaillant said.
Vaillant started cheer when she was in 8th grade, and she says that it really depends if she would pursue this in life but if it comes to it she will.
