Yahilin Sorto is a freshman in Rocktown high school, and when I asked about unity day and what it means to her she says, “Unity day means to me that everyone is united together as a school and as a community”
Ross Foster is a teacher at Rocktown high school. “To me unity day is sorta similar to our belong, believe, achieve, to the belong part, like everybody has a place here we are all one community and you know we are all just humans doing this thing for the first time, and to be accepting of other people and just understanding situations.” he says
Reemna Zeray is a freshman. “Unity day is really important to me because I think that it brings people closer together and it is a chance where people get to show more love towards others, it gives people an opportunity to spread more kindness around even if it is just the smallest compliment, it can really make someone’s day, and unite us all together as one.” Zeray says. “It is a chance to be accepting, to include new people that you may have never talked to rather it be your best friend that you have known since birth, or someone in the hallway that you have never even seen in you whole life, just take unity day as an opportunity to say “hello” or tell them that you like their shirt.”
Zeray has a message for you all now. “To some it all up unity day is really just a chance to be kind so if you are going to pick any day out of the whole year to be kind, choose unity day. Although you should really be kind everyday, many people are not but that does not mean that you have to be like them. Be brave, be yourself, but most of all be kind.” she says.
