AVID is one of the elective courses offered in Rocktown, it’s a class that helps with making a path for after high school. It also helps with organizational skills and how to succeed in high school. We asked 9th grader Dennise Turcios and 10th grader Erianny Pauoio about their AVID experience.
“It helps me keep track in classes and I do my planner in every class,” Turcios said.
AVID has helped hundreds of students figure out what they want to do after high school, especially first generation college students.
“I joined avid because I’m going to be a first generation college student meaning my parents did go to college but not in this country so I’m the first to go to college here I thought it would be like a great opportunity for me to learn more about college and about the cost and be prepared mentally,” Pauoio said.
AVID helps students with many things, especially in high school it’s hard to keep track of so many things. So we asked Turcios and Pauoio what are important things AVID has helped them with.
“It’s helped me really good with um classes so i can memorize like really good on my test it’s helped me make out a sort of like high school plan so the classes i need to take and get my GPA up get good grades and it helps me like study really really well,” Pauoio said.
Avid has lots of requirements for staying on track in classes, so as you continue in AVID you pick up habitats, so we asked AVID students Turcios and Pauoio what are some habits they’ve picked up from Avid.
“Some habitats I’ve picked up from avid is like well i pay more attention more in class I have to pick up the really important details so now in my classes like in my bio class he doesn’t really write it down he just speaks so it’s easier for me now that I’m in avid so i just write down the important parts instead of him just writing it down on the board,” Pauoio said.
“Doing my and keeping my bookbag organized,” Turcios said.
AVID is an amazing class to take, especially if you’re not sure what you want to do in the future. But sometimes AVID can be hard. So when asked what keeps them motivated in AVID Turcios and Pauoio said
“It has motivated me to do things out of my comfort zone and it’s motivated me to try new things,” Pauoio said.
