The Asian Student Association (ASA) president, Ayana Udstuen has new ideas and wants to expand the club. As the new president, she is determined to develop ASA into a better club this year.
As a person of Hmong heritage, Udstuen feels personally connected to being a part of this club, and has high hopes for this year. She is planning to emphasize the diversity of Asian culture through food and traditions.
“I feel a lot closer to my heritage by being a part of ASA. I really want to focus on the month of May which is Asian and Pacific Islander month,” Udstuen said. “I want to showcase the foods of the different cultures and the different heritages in the Asian community.”
Udstuen has many goals and hopes for the club this year. She is going to prioritize fundraising and outreach. However, she anticipates some challenges she and her board will have to overcome.
“I think it might be hard to get it started with challenges with fundraising and networking, and make the amount that we need, but I think as long as we don’t give up and have order with what we want for fundraising, It’ll go okay” Udstuen said.
Not only does Udstuen have high hopes for this year, she hopes to leave a lasting impact on the club for future years and ensure continuity. She would like to open up opportunities and strengthen connections with the local community.
“I hope that I will grow the club and that there will be more opportunities after I’m done being president,” Udstuen said. “I hope to make the relationship in ASA last and with our local businesses. I hope to set up certain activities that will continue for many years.”
ASA is open to everyone and Udstuen encourages students to get involved. Those interested in joining can reach her at [email protected].
